        • MSCI is a leading provider of indices, portfolio risk and performance analytics, and governance tools for investors and asset managers. Best known index is the EAFE for international stocks. Site includes free data on their indices and offers access to selected research reports.

        • Site offers quotes, charts, market activity, indices, news. Also has sections with how-to information on investing and personal finance.

        • NYSE Euronext is a holding company combining ownership of the New York Stock Exchange, American Stock Exchange, Euronext, and other exchanges and trading platforms. Site offers extensive listings, news, charts, and data for stocks, bonds, options, futures, closed end funds, etc. that trade on their exchanges. Also searchable by industry. Also provides information on regulations and practices of the exchanges.

        • Basic data available for free--with some requiring registration. More extensive information requires subscription. The McGraw-Hill Companies and CME Group combined their services in July 2012 to launch S&P Dow Jones Indices to host a variety of indexes including the Standard & Poor's 500 of large U.S. stocks and the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

        • Best known for Wilshire 5000 representing the total U.S. stock market. Offers data on variety of their indexes plus interesting index return calculator.

      • Government Sites
        • Formed by the Merger of Dept. of Financial Institutions and Dept. of Corporations in July 2013, the Department of Business Oversight (DBO) provides protection to consumers and services to businesses engaged in financial transactions. The Department regulates a variety of financial services, products and professionals. The Department oversees the operations of state-licensed financial institutions, including banks, credit unions, money transmitters, issuers of payment instruments and travelers checks, and premium finance companies. Additionally, the Department licenses and regulates a variety of financial businesses, including securities brokers and dealers, investment advisers, deferred deposit transactions(commonly known as payday loans) and certain fiduciaries and lenders. The Department also regulates the offer and sale of securities, franchises and off-exchange commodities.

      • Industry/Trade/Professional Associations Sites
        • FINRA is the largest independent regulator for all securities firms doing business in the United States, overseeing brokerage firms and registered securities representatives. Their role is to protect investors by maintaining the fairness of the U.S. capital markets.
        • The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is based in New York City and is considered the largest equities-based exchange in the world based on total market capitalization of its listed securities. The parent company now also includes the Archipelago electronic exchange and Euronext, the European exchange. Web site offers news, data, reports, directories of company listings, and assistance for investor complaints and inquiries.
        • North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) is a voluntary association whose membership consists of 67 state, provincial, and territorial securities administrators throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Their fundamental mission is protecting consumers who purchase securities or investment advice, and their jurisdiction extends to a wide variety of issuers and intermediaries who offer and sell securities to the public. Site offers investor education and regulatory resources.
