Author Talk/Book Discussion
Luis shares intimate poems and stories of his own life, including as a former gang member and drug addict, to illustrate the odyssey in everyone's struggles to find "home": genius, purpose, and meaning in everything, including the troubles of life, to grow into an integral, autonomous, and dignified human being. Poetry is a key artistic form to get there.

"Poetry is Story, Poetry is Life"
Luis will draw out the poetry, images, and stories within participants with prompts that evoke deep soul feelings and thoughts. On a volunteer basis, participants read back their writing, which always demonstrates the innate nature of people to be driven by narrative and language impulses. The aim is to validate the personal voice in a world that tends to drown these expressions for "official," popular, or manufactured voices and stories.
