Teen Book Fest Panel Preview: What We Talk About When We Talk About Love

Teenscape Department, Central Library,
Teen Book Fest Logo

What We Talk About When We Talk About Love will take place on Saturday, October 12 at 3pm in Teen’Scape.

There are so many places a good love story can take you in a book. We can watch characters fall in love, and fall in love with them ourselves. We can read about romances that blossom or turn sour, and starcrossed lovers who overcome impossible odds to be together - or don’t. Love keeps us turning pages and rooting for characters, and whether it has a happy ending or not, a great love story can build as much suspense and tension as any thriller.

Meet our panelists:

Josephine Angelini, author of the Starcrossed series

Starcrossed, Dreamless, and Goddess make up this epic trilogy inspired by Greek mythology about a girl named Helen who uncovers the truth about her lineage and discovers she is destined to start a modern Trojan War. And her complicated feelings for Lucas, a boy she’s both drawn to and repelled by, don’t make things any easier.

Elana K. Arnold, author of Burning

Ben is headed for college and a track scholarship. Lala is a Roma girl, traveling with her family to tell fortunes at Burning Man, and headed for an arranged marriage as soon as she turns 18. When Lala tells Ben’s fortune, though, the two are drawn together in a romance that makes both of them question the path they’re on.

Bill Konigsberg, author of Openly Straight

When Rafe is accepted at an all-male boarding school, he sees it as a chance to reinvent himself as someone other than “the gay kid,” and decides to let his classmates assume he’s straight. It’s all going well until he meets - and falls hard - for Ben.
