Elizabeth Graney, Librarian, Literature & Fiction Department,
collage of Movie Posters and books

If you've heard it once, you've heard it a million times—the book was better! There's nothing like debating the differences between a favorite book and its translation to the screen. But if you don't know your beloved series is coming out as a movie, or that the fun looking preview you saw was adapted from a book, how can you join the debate? The library is here to the rescue! Here we will be exploring the movie adaptations soon to hit your local theatres and give you the chance to read before you view.

Coming This September

It: A Novel
King, Stephen

27 years after the events of the first film (and half of the book) the horror starts again and the Losers reconverge on the town of Derry to confront the monster from their past.

Zeroville
Erickson, Steve.

On the same week as the infamous Manson family murders, 24 year old architecture student Ike Jerome arrives in Los Angeles. With a prominent tattoo of Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift on the back of his head, Ike is dedicated to making his mark on the film industry that he loves. Surreal and darkly comic, Erickson’s novel looks at the world of Hollywood through the 70’s and 80’s.

The Goldfinch
Tartt, Donna

During a visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a bombing kills 13 year old Theo Decker’s mother. In the chaotic aftermath, he steals a painting his mother loved, Carel Fabritus’ The Goldfinch. The novel follows Theo through his life as he carries this painting with him, both as his prize and his burden.

End of the Rainbow
Quilter, Peter

Movie: Judy

In the winter of 1968, Judy Garland booked a series of comeback concerts over six weeks at London’s Talk of the Town nightclub. Garland hoped to recapture her career after a series of devastating setbacks but that dream was never meant to be. A bittersweet look at a star at the end of her career.

Strange but True
Searles, John

Five years after Ronnie Chase died in a terrible car accident, his high school girlfriend arrives at his mother’s doorstep to announce she is 9 months pregnant with his child. Stunned by this seemingly impossible claim, Ronnie’s family is forced to confront the past they have been running from and the secrets and lies they’ve held on to all these years.
