There's Food At Home
I am twenty-seven years old and I completely understand why my mother always said: “hay comida en la casa.”
It is always—I said it and I stand by it: always—easier to stop somewhere to pick up food already prepared for you. I mean, come on, after working eight hours a day, waking up super early to work out (is this just me?) all you want to do is go home and not have to deal with making yourself some food. Trust me, I get it! However, the more I look and look and look at my bank account the more I find myself gasping and telling myself: “you sure did it again, Patty, you managed to spend quite a bit on food this week.”
Don’t get me wrong I am always for spending time with friends and family at some restaurant! I love spending quality time with people I care about and enjoy being together with food around. But, the older I get the more I continuously tell myself: “I need to start cooking at home to save money.” I now see why mom always said this to my two sisters and me. She had to feed four people, and I complain about just feeding myself. Sigh.
So if you're like me and did not spend enough time learning your family’s recipes or you just wanted to rebel against learning to cook because of patriarchal reasons, and you now want to start cooking at home, worry no more! The library has all your needs to begin this new phase of your life by offering various cookbooks located below this post.
Now when you go to the grocery store you'll know what to buy, and not continuously buy spinach every week—only to throw the bag away after two weeks unopened (sigh, I do it every time).
Anyways, please join me in my new phase of life as I get better at this adulting thing.
Also, to keep you company while cooking all these recipes using the library’s cookbooks—or calling your mom, tia, tio, grandparents, siblings for recipes or to have them stay on the phone making sure you are doing it right—I made a playlist.
