Digital literacy is no longer a choice; access to high-speed Internet is essential for Americans to do everything from finding a job to applying for college to gaining health care coverage...Libraries have always been keepers and curators of the world’s knowledge, and today are utilizing technology to democratize access to information in ways that were unthinkable even two decades ago. —The Aspen Institute Dialogue on Public Libraries, Libraries are Bridging the Digital Divide in Public Cities

As the importance of the internet has grown extensively over time, the information and education needs of our communities have also shifted rapidly. The Los Angeles Public Library’s stated mission is to “provide free and easy access to information, ideas, books and technology that enrich, educate and empower every individual in our city's diverse communities.” In continuing to serve this mission, the library is committed to helping our communities bridge the digital divide. This includes recognizing disparities in digital inclusion by providing easy access to tech learning, tech devices and tech tools to meet the needs of a diverse population, regardless of income level, age, education level, ability, or any other facet of an individual's life experience.

To further highlight the library’s tech services available to our communities, we are celebrating Digital Inclusion Week. During this week there is a nationwide effort to bring awareness of the digital inequities present in our society.

Check out the free events, classes, and forums available to help, educate and illuminate all the ways you can utilize technology in your life, whether it’s learning new skills through one of our online classes, downloading an e-book or getting familiar with a new smart electronic device.

You can be assured that the library is here for you regardless of tech familiarity. We offer free Wi-Fi, free computer use, and an array of services and programs at all of our locations. Plus our librarians are available to answer your questions about technology.
