In the mood for a good movie? Some toe-tapping music? A thrilling book? ON THIS DAY will lead you to new possibilities every day, tied to interesting moments from history and popular culture. Whether it’s streamable and downloadable music and film, e-books and e-audio, or physical books and DVDs, we hope you’ll find something to enjoy as you pick up a few bits of history each day.

Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington: Picasso On this day in 1881, Pablo Picasso was born. Picasso was among the most significant and influential artists of the 20th century. He was one of the founders of Cubism, and among the first to use collage techniques in his paintings. Picasso worked in many types of art -- drawings, paintings, ceramics, printmaking, and sculpture -- and was extraordinarily prolific. Arianna Huffington's biography, Picasso, is available as an e-book from Hoopla, or in print.
Helen Reddy: I Am Woman On this day in 1941, Helen Reddy was born. Reddy was a popular singer in the early 1970s, when her hits included "Delta Dawn," "Angie Baby," and the feminist anthem "I Am Woman." She recorded less in the 1980s and 1990s, shifting her focus to musical theatre, including starring in Blood Brothers for several months on Broadway. Reddy has been mostly retired for about fifteen years. Several of her albums are available for streaming at Hoopla.
Anne Tyler: Vinegar Girl And on this day in 1941, Anne Tyler was born. Tyler has written more than twenty novels, usually focusing on the challenges of marriage, family life, and romantic relationships. She is often praised for the skillful use of small details and precise observations to develop sharply defined characters. Vinegar Girl is Tyler's contermporary re-telling of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew; it's available as an e-book or e-audio from OverDrive, in print, or as an audiobook.
