And on this day in 1963, the first episode of Doctor Who aired on the BBC. The Doctor is a time-traveling alien Time Lord who, if injured seriously enough, regenerates in a new body. This allows the role to be re-cast every few years, which has contributed to the show's longevity; Peter Capaldi currently stars as the Twelfth Doctor. The original run of Doctor Who lasted until 1989; the current revival began in 2005, and is scheduled to run until at least 2020. Comics featuring several of the character's most recent incarnations (Doctors Nine through Twelve) are available at Hoopla. |
