On this day in 1925, Rock Hudson was born. Hudson was one of Hollywood's most popular leading men in the 1950s and 1960s, successful in both drama and comedy. In the 1970s, he turned to television, where he starred for six years in McMillan and Wife. If 1985, shortly before his death, Hudson became one of the first pubilc figures to reveal that he had AIDS, a revelation which had an enormous impact on the visibility of the disease and on fund-raising for research and support services. On this day in 1942, Martin Scorsese was born. Scorsese is one of the most acclaimed directors working today; in nearly fifty years of movie-making, he's made such classics as Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, The King of Comedy, Raging Bull, and The Departed. He frequently explores themes of guilt and redemption, masculinity, and crime and violence. Scorsese's controversial The Last Temptation of Christ is available for streaming at Hoopla. |

And on this day in 1960, RuPaul was born. RuPaul became a popular entertainer in New York drag clubs in the early 1990s, and has recorded several successful albums of dance music. Since 2009. RuPaul has hosted -- both in and out of drag -- RuPaul's Drag Race, a reality competition TV show in which he searches for "America's next drag superstar."
