Great moments in history and popular culture happen every day, and ON THIS DAY will share a few of them with you. We’ll also point you to related resources in our collection, helping you to discover classic films, musical favorites, and historical tidbits. The primary focus will be on our e-material – e-books, e-audio, and downloadable and streamable music and film – but physical books and DVDs will also be part of the fun.

On this day in 1900, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was born. Much of Saint-Exupéry's writing was informed by his experiences as a pilot. He served in the French Air Force in the mid-1920s, then worked for several years flying international postal routes between France and West Africa. His most popular book, The Little Prince, is the story of a pilot who crashes in the desert (something that actually happened to Saint-Exupéry during his postal pilot years) and meets a young prince who has come to Earth from a small asteroid. Saint-Exupéry also painted the book's watercolor illustrations. The Little Prince is available as an e-book from OverDrive, or in print. |
