On this day in 1890, Stan Laurel was born. He had already made more than 50 silent film comedies before being paired with Oliver Hardy. As a team, they were comedy legends, starring in over 100 short films and features. After Hardy's death in 1959, Laurel lived in quiet retirement in Santa Monica, not wanting to perform without his longtime partner. Ten of Laurel and Hardy's short films are collected in The Lost Films of Laurel and Hardy, available for streaming at Hoopla. |
