	On this day in 1948, the Seneca Falls Convention began. The two day event was the first women's rights convention. The event was organized by Elizabeth Cady Stanton, with assistance from female Quakers in the Seneca Falls, New York, area. It produced a Declaration of Sentiments, written by Stanton and modeled after the Declaration of Independence, which was signed by 100 of the approximately 300 people who attended the convention. 	On this day in 1903, Maurice Garin won the first Tour de France. The bicycle race was created by a French sports newspaper as a way of boosting circulation. The first Tour lasted 19 days, and the winner's prize was 12,000 francs, about six times the annual income of the average French factory worker. 	And on this day in 1965, Evelyn Glennie was born. The percussionist and composer has been profoundly deaf since the age of 12, and usually performs barefoot in order to better feel the music. She has commissioned more than 150 works, both for solo percussion and for percussion and orchestra, and recorded more than 30 albums; the 1999 album Shadow Behind the Iron Sun is available for streaming or download at Freegal.
