On this day in 1916, Dinah Shore was born. Shore was among the most popular singers of the 1940s and 1950s, singing pop standards such as "Blues in the Night," "I'll Walk Alone," and "I Wish I Didn't Love You So." Beginning in 1951, she was also a popular television personality, hosting several different variety and talk shows, both prime-time and daytime, for more than 40 years. On this day in 1948, Patricia A. McKillip was born. McKillip first came to prominence with her 1974 novel The Forgotten Beasts of Eld, which won the World Fantasy Award. She writes lush, opulent fantasy featuring strong heroines; music often plays a role in her stories. And on this day in 1964, Mervyn Warren was born. Warren was a child prodigy, serving as a piano accompanist at 7, writing arrangements for vocal groups at 10, writing original songs at 12. He was a founding member of the jazz/gospel group Take 6, and since leaving that group, has had a busy career as a composer, producer, and arranger.
