On this day in 1933, Jayne Mansfield was born. Mansfield's stardom was brief, but in the late 1950s and early 1960s, she was one of Hollywood's reigning sex symbols. Mansfield made several attempts to play dramatic roles and to be taken more seriously as an actress, some of which were well-recieved by the critics. But audiences liked her best in comedies, or in roles that emphasized her physical assets. Mansfield plays one of her relatively serious roles in the British gangster thriller Too Hot to Handle; it's available for streaming at Hoopla. |
