Recommend a book for the Reading Club

I think the series “Private” is a great series to read. It teaches us lessons about friendship and trouble we have in high school and sometimes middle school. It gets a little drastic because it includes murder but it shows us things about trust and some backstabbing which is what a lot of girls experience at this age.  – Anonymous

The book (Twilight) is a great book for readers who wanna sink there teeth into a good book. But if your looking for something more....Sympathetic then you should definitely Check out the book (The Eternal Kiss)Its just as interesting as Twilight but just has a different spin too it.  – Kristy

Cirque Du Freak by Darren Shan (Series) – Koryun

Blue bloods series - Personally I recommend this book because it’s really interesting.  For those of you who like Vampire books this is the right book for you. It contains mystery, suspense, and romance.   – Maritza

My favorite book so far this month is Alex and the Ironic Gentleman. It is a new book about a girl named Alex. When her new friend, a sixth grade teacher is captured by the infamous pirate ship the Ironic Gentleman, guess who goes to the rescue? – Amy

The Art of Possibility by Zander and Zander – Darice

Ohh, this is tough question, since I love books so much. But my answer will be The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It's full of action and romance. It's become a very popular. And I have recommended this book to all my friends and they have all enjoyed it. It will make a good topic for a book club.  – Islela

I would recommend reading The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. It is set in 1960's Afghanistan and it’s about betrayal of friendship and redemption. It gives you an idea of how Afghanistan was and how it is now. It’s a really strong book that will intrigue you. I really loved this book and after reading it I could say its one of my favorite books. – Sylmar

I think that a real good book to read is Dancing on the Edge by Han Nolan. This book is real good in my opinion. It about a girl named Miracle, her father disappears and has wondering where he went. But since he's gone she has to live with her aunts and uncles and grandparents. But that’s all I'm going to tell you'll have to read to find out the rest.  -- Dannie

The best book that I have ever read was by David Pelzer. He is a good at heart and in person. But the books to read are: A boy called it; the lost boy & A man name Dave. These are really good books they have help me in many ways in my life. – LaQuinta

Right now I'm trying to get a job so that when I do start going to college it will ease a little bit of my stress and I'm also starting to look at some grant sites to help with my college tuition. – Gina

Well the way am saving for college is by working at this restaurant that I’ve been working for about 3 year and all the money that I earn I save it in my bank account so that way I could have money for my college because my parent told me that they were not going to pay so that sucks but I think I could make it by having my money already save to my bank account that’s the way am saving money for college.   - Marelly

My Happiest Moment is …

Well I think that my happiest moment was when my team made it to the play offs last school year. We were undefeated all year, and made it number 1 in our league. Yea, “GO HUSKIES!”  GIRLS BASKETBALL  -- Kia

My happiest moment was probably the end of 2004. I was bored with reading the teen books and then I discovered Manga. Ever since then, I've probably read over 400 different titles and am now the proud owner of 327 Manga. Though there's no more room on my bookshelf, I think I'll make everyone happy by donating the ones that I don't read anymore like Anne Freaks or Alice 19th, because sharing what I love always makes me happy. ^_^  - Rin

One of my happiest moments in my life was graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School and graduating with my classmate in a stadium.  I wouldn’t have done it if my mom weren’t supporting me given the education to my life.  I am very proud of myself.

To read. I always get too caught up in reading in the school year, and feel bad about not doing things that I need to read instead. During the summer, there is a whole lot more time, so that you can just sit back and read ahead.  I still get tired of books sometimes, not often. Then I go outside, walk around, and listen. To volunteer in the library and to help out with the events going on during summer. I also love to read a lot of books (at least 3 books a week), and watch movies with my friends. I think that the Porter Ranch Branch library should have a teen section. They already have the “young adult” but its kind of boring with just wooden table and chairs. They should have a fundraiser and buy like a couch and a big beanie bag pillows so we could sit. i would also donate like some really cool pillows for the couch:)  I also want to say that the librarian Beth Hardy is awesome!!  - Princess

I think you guys at the Venice Library should like help the kids more than the teens like you guys should make us wanna be at the library more because I like thinking about the library but when am in it like it’s hard to get a card and use correctly the computer and well people around should help us because a lot of teens need help on homework but its hard so am just telling you guys what will make the library better :)  - Nicole

The library is cool, yeah the comps. and books, CD"s etc. But they could have more places to use the comps. without having to need a library card. People over ages of 11 should be able to use kid path comps. if no other child of the required age is present, due to the fact that most one hour comps. are always used and/or are few of them. Most computers are not being able to be used because children of smaller ages pound on the keyboards or using pencils to write all over the screen. I have noticed there are sometimes not a wide variety of books in one particular section. – Enyel

I would like to give my appreciation to the staff and staff members of the Central Library because without there help and support I wouldn't be able to find a book I was looking for or be able to surf the net for homework and I wouldn't be able to print papers out cause I don't have a computer at home. First of all, I love the new Harbor-gateway library; its way more high tech than the old one. Finally, my local library is back! For a fact I didn't even know what black history was until I saw “That so Raven”, I understand that it thanks all the people that helped change the unfair things that was happening to all the black slaves for example: Martin Luther King, Harriet Tubman and so on. Anyways there is still people discriminate African Americans but it is less than it would be than if all those people wouldn’t changed anything. THAT IS WHAT I THINK. -- Emilia

I love this web site but it has stuff about living above the influence, school, help with personal stuff that no one else can see but you. It should help you with homework more and even what to do about parents and how they influence your life style you know stuff like how to turn down peer presser to do bad in school [and] how much stress we ave(most of it from our parents on school work. I think that books are the greatest thing to ever happen. When I get a new book it is the greatest thing. I love to imagine myself in the stories and watch the stories play out. It's better than watching T.V. because you have to use your imagination to really make it work.

I think that coming to the library is fun because u get to use any computer u want. There’s like a limit but at least u check or look at whatever u want even check out your email address or confirm a first class flight to even a job of any kind.

I really like that the LAPL offers the STUDENT SMART program. I think that it is a great program. I was wondering how the locations are chose. I was hoping that maybe there could be a way for more locations to provide this program, locations within a  radius of high school, I now that's a lot of area to cover, but it would really be helpful. I didn't see testing locations near University High nor Venice High. I attend University High and we have some great programs at my school, but I am also trying to get all the help that I can. This is my Junior year and I have plan to take both the SAT and the ACT test. --
