In conjunction with LA's Big Read of Jhumpa Lahiri's The Namesake, we offer two award-winning short films about identity and cultural assimilation of Asian-Indians in America: Miss India Georgia (1997). 56 minutes. A touching and insightful study of teens struggling to establish their identities as both American and Asian-Indian, set against the backdrop of a Miss America Georgia Pageant; Punjabi Cab (2004) 20 minutes. Narratives of several Sikh immigrant Taxi Drivers, working in the San Francisco Bay Area who have endured harassment and violence after 9/11. A poignant film that has been recognized across the country at many film festivals.
