RSVPs are encouraged but not required. We just want to have an idea of how many materials to purchase beforehand. You can call the Information Desk at 818-755-7873 or email the library directly.

Are you interested in wacky experiments, building working machines, or explosions? At Studio City Library, we've noticed our science books being checked out all the time. We thought, why not recreate some of those science activities at the library? We're making moving vehicles out of LEGOs, using physics principles to make stomp rockets, sewing our own glowing laser cuffs, and building earthquake proof buildings out of construction paper -- just to start!

Summer 2015 will feature a variety of activities suitable for ages 8 and up. The schedule is below:

  • May 18th - Create motorized vehicles out of LEGO blocks! We'll have competitions for fastest and slowest vehicle, plus learn about axles, gears, and battery power. (Adult help is recommended for participants under the age of 10.)
  • June 15th - Let your creativity run wild with littleBits. Invent new devices with these easy-to-use electronic components.
  • June 29th - Explore the world of ANTS -- with real, live ants at the library. Make your own mandibles for different tasks.
  • July 13th - Want to find out how computers *do* stuff? We'll cover the basics of coding -- WITH PLASTIC CUPS?!
  • July 27th - Lights! Sounds! Create an electronic greeting card that displays your creativity.
