Every year the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs and the Los Angeles Public Library celebrate reading city-wide with a book featured from the National Endowment for the Arts Big Read. This year's title is The Namesake. Join us for a revealing discussion of Jhumpa Lahiri's exploration of identity and cultural assimilation, bringing alive the colors, flavors, and textures of immigrant Indian life in the USA. Seating is limited, so please sign up for the book discussion and pick up a copy of the book in the Literature/Fiction Department (3rd floor, Bradley Wing.) Funding for copies of the book provided by the Library Foundation of Los Angeles. The Big Read is a program of the NEA in partnership with Arts Midwest.
