Memorial Branch Library, in conjunction with the City of Los Angeles Dept. of Cultural Affairs, honors the 2014 Big Read in L.A. selection, Jhumpa Lahiri's The Namesake. You are invited to an evening of India cultural, learning the art of Bollywood dance and tasting the indigenous foods as described by Indian American author Lahiri in her award-winning novel.
In The Namesake, native Indian dance and foods are symbolic of the homeland and the characters' connection to their Indian culture, showing the ways in which Bengali traditions are preserved and the importance of family.
