Indian Ameican author Jhumpa Lahiri won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction with her debut short story collection, Interpreter of Maladies. The Namesake, her first novel, was adapted for the popular film of the same name. It explores the immigrant experience, the conflicts of assimilation, and the tangled ties between generations. The Namesake is LA's Big Read this year. Teens and adults are invited to join us for a discussion of the book and a viewing of a short documentary film entitled Miss India Georgia about an ethnic beauty competition.
