Word Processing at the Library

Program

The library’s computers have a word processing program and a resume program.

Saving Your Work

In order to save your work when Word Processing at the library, you will need a 3.5” floppy disk formatted for PCs (not Macintosh). If you attempt to save on the hard drive of the computer, it may look like the document is being saved, but it will be erased as soon as you close the program.

To save your work on a floppy disk when using a networked computer.

Networked Computers

  • Put floppy disk in disk drive
  • Click on the File menu
  • Click on Save As
  • Click to the right of the Save In box
  • Click on A$ on “Client” (A:)
  • In the File Name box, type in the name of your file
  • Click on Save

Accessing a Saved File

If your file has a virus on it IT WILL BE ERASED. The virus protection software may be able to detect a virus, but it may not know how to clean it. If it does not know how to clean it, the virus continues to infect files. If you bring an infected disc to use on public library PCs and that file disappears, there is no way to get it back.

To access your saved file:

Networked Computers

  • Put floppy disk in the disk drive
  • Click on File Menu
  • Click on Open
  • Click to the right of the window with “Personal” in it
  • Click on A$ on “Client” (A:)
  • Click on name of file you wish to open
  • Click on Open
