        Chock full of information, just like its print version.
      • Flags of the World
        Comprehensive site that allows you to search by country, keyword or title. Contains over 1500 images
      • Fugitive Fact File
        The Hennepin County Library (MN) staff's fugitive fact file contains hard-to-find answers in thousands of topics -- browseable or searchable. Results include answer, source, date, and web site, if pertinent. Some of it is MN specific, but there's something here for everyone!
      • Information Please
        The publishers have put the Information Please Almanac, their Entertainment Almanac and Sports Almanac, the Columbia Encyclopedia, and the Random House College Dictionary online for searching or browsing. You can search these ready reference works together or separately and by subject or full text keyword. Be sure to read their Help section. In addition they do a feature story each week (Spotlight) covering a topic in the news.
      • Nation Master
        Large data source gathered from cited authoritative resources that allows users to compare all types of statistics on countries. Fun to browse for interesting statistical facts.
      • Price's List of Lists
        The List of Lists is a database of ranked listings of companies, people and resources available on the Internet.
      • Rulers
        This site contains lists of heads of state and heads of government going back to 1900 of all currently existing countries and territories. Therefore for Soviet Union, see Russia.
      • The 50 States of the United States: Capital Cities and Information Links
        This site lists the fifty states and information on their locations (latitude and longitude), birds, colleges and universities, constitutions, flowers, genealogical resources, geological formations, geographical features, mottos, national forests and parks, newspapers, nicknames, non profit organizations, populations, state and federal representatives, songs, and the dates of entry into the union. All facts are linked to over 1529 governmental or authoritative web pages.
      • U.S. Department of State Background Notes
        Background notes is an official United States Government publication which profiles countries and organizations of the world. Each entry generally includes the following on each country: Profile, People, Government, Economy, History, Political Conditions, Economy, Foreign relations, Principal U.S. Officials.
      • Wolfram|Alpha (W|A)
        A computational knowledge engine using its own internal knowledge base instead of searching the web and returning links. Emphasis on science and engineering plus a variety of subjects including mathematics, statistics, chemistry, finance, stock comparisons, geography, food, and data analysis.
      • World Factbook
        Published annually, by the Central Intelligence Agency, this is a handy reference work for basic statistical data on the countries of the world.

        Allows you to determine the day of the week for any month and year.  Links to site where complete perpetual calendar is printable.

        Finished Microsoft Word calendars for any date.
      • World Dates Archive
        Database of important dates, listed by month. Have to choose month and can then use your browser's Find feature to search for an event. Great, if you don't have Chase's Annual Events handy and can guess the month you want.

      • Whatis.com
        Hyper-linked definitions of more than 1,000 Internet and computer related terms. All can be browsed or searched.
      • Wordsmyth English Dictionary Thesaurus (WEDT)
        This is an original standard dictionary-thesaurus of American English with definitions and pronunciations, an integrated thesaurus, and usage examples. A nice feature is the Approximate Search, which will find words that are close in spelling to your word. The database has approximately 50,000 headwords, and nearly 13,000 of these have thesaurus entries.
      • WWWebster Dictionary
        Based on the Webster's 10th Collegiate edition, 1993. More than 160,000 entries. Each word is accompanied by definition, pronunciation, usage, grammatical function, and a brief etymology. A thesaurus can be queried for similar words, hypertext cross references are available, and misspellings return suggested spellings. Includes an extensive pronunciation guide.
