Teen Book Fest Panel Preview: Middle Grade Book Party
The Middle Grade Book Party panel will take place on Saturday, October 12 at 12pm in Teen’Scape.
Some of the best stories for young people being written right now are for that tween-aged audience of 8-12-year-olds. But why should they get to have all the fun? These books are so good, we think everybody should be reading them.
Meet our panelists:
Barbara Brauner & James Iver Mattson, authors of The Glitter Trap
Twelve-year-old Lacey Unger-Ware (yes, that’s really her name) is already facing her fair share of middle school angst when her cat tried to eat somebody else’s fairy godmother. While her wings heal, Katarina the fairy godmother puts Lacey on wish-granting duty for Paige, a mean, popular girl who is not exactly on Lacey’s list of favorite people.
Kristen Kittscher, author of The Wig in the Window
On a midnight spy mission, Sophie Young and Grace Yang witness a grisly scene when they peer through the window of their middle school counselor. Or not...as it turns out, Dr. Charlotte Agford is just making her famous pickled beets, not hacking up a body. But then things take a turn for the weird, and suddenly, the girls begin suspect that something sinister is going on with their school counselor after all.
Jenn Reese, author of the Above World series
Thirteen-year-old Aluna has lived her entire life under the ocean, but after centuries spent hidden from the Above World, her colony’s survival is in doubt, and nobody in power will do anything to stop it. Only headstrong Aluna and her friend Hoku are stubborn and bold enough to face the terrors of the Above World to search for a way to save their people.
Ned Vizzini, author of House of Secrets
In this collaboration with Harry Potter director Chris Columbus, Vizzini tells the story of the Walker family, who move into a house that seems too good to be true - and is. Soon the is family is kidnapped into a dangerous, magical world, and it’s up to the three Walker siblings to rescue their parents and try to get the whole family safely home again.
Cecil Castellucci, author of First Day on Earth
When a troubled boy who believes he was abducted by aliens meets a boy who claims he's an alien stranded on earth, the two strike up an unusual friendship in this heartfelt story about what it means to be an outsider.
We will be giving away prize bags including copies of The Glitter Trap, The Wig in the Window, Above World, House of Secrets, and First Day on Earth, to members of the audience at this panel. Don’t forget to fill out a prize ticket when you take your seat!
