Also known as Joe Pi, Jose Pimienta has been drawing as long as he can remember.  In 2009, he packed his belongings and drove to Los Angeles, where he now works drawing comics, storyboards and sketches for visual development. Come meet this talented illustrator as he presents his work on Soupy Leaves Home through the Summer Author program.

The super talented author-illustrator Molly Ostertag studied cartooning and illustrates a twice-weekly webcomic about superheroes and social justice called STRONG FEMALE PROTAGONIST.  Her debut graphic novel The Witch Boy is a magical mix of fantasy, reality, family and identity.  Come meet Molly as she presents her work through the Summer Author program.

After working as a television executive, Sara Saedi now writes novels for teens and TV for everyone.  Her credits include the hit CW drama iZombie, but what she’s really excited about is her new memoir,  Americanized: Rebel Without a Green Card. Come meet Sara and hear about her experience growing up as an undocumented immigrant through the Summer Author program.

She will present her book  Un Elefante: Numbers=Numeros through the Summer Author program.

In addition to writing stories about Los Angeles’s notorious past, Mary McCoy, writer AND a  librarian at the Los Angeles Public Library, has been writing mysteries for children (and dinosaur poetry, in her spare time).  Don’t miss this chance to meet Mary as she presents her book Camp So-And-So through the Summer Author program.

The novelist, Aditi Khorana grew up in India, Demark and New England and worked as a television journalist before writing her first YA novel, Mirror in the Sky. Her newest book, Library of Fates, is a coming-of-age fantasy steeped in Indian mythology where troubled oracles, irreverent goddesses, and megalomaniacal kings battle for control of love and fate. Meet this dynamic author as she presents her work through our Summer Author program.

From her beginnings in the woods of Maryland, Nilah Magruder developed an eternal love for three things: nature, books, and animation. Naturally, all of her school notebooks were full of doodles of animals and cartoon characters.  She has illustrated for comics, children's books, film and commercial television, but when she's not drawing or writing, Nilah is reading fantasy novels, watching movies, roller-skating, and fighting her cat for control of her desk chair.  Come meet Nilah as she presents her amazing children's book How to Find a Fox.

Nilah Magruder is an award-winning writer, illustrator, and storyboard artist.  She received the Dwayne McDuffie Award for Diversity, in recognition of her web comic M.F.K. which was later published as a graphic novel. She has also written for Marvel and illustrated for children’s books, film and commercial television as well as Disney and DreamWorks.
