Los Angeles Public Library is thrilled to celebrate Free Comic Book Day this week!
First, the Vermont Square Branch Library is hosting an Anime Drawing Workshop with Carlos Nieto on Thursday May 5th @ 4 p.m. At this workshop, students will learn how to draw an anime style character using basic shapes and step-by-step instructions so that they may repeat the process later and create their own characters!
There are also multiple libraries that are offering Free Comic Book Day programming on May 7th.
The Los Feliz Branch Library is hosting a screening of the second film in the Captain America Marvel film series at 1 p.m. and featuring two drop-in craft programs all day long, where patrons can create superhero masks and/or superhero finger puppets!
The Memorial Branch Library will have blank comic strip pages available at the Reference Desk all day for patrons to draw the library a comic. In return, participants will receive a free comic book courtesy of Diamond Comic Distributors. The library will post the comics on the desk for everyone to enjoy.
The Pacoima Branch Library is featuring a Free Comic Book Day display and giveaways including 50 Manga Samplers from Viz Media, 100 DC Comics posters, 200 Batman vs Superman bookmarks, and 10 DC comics (while supplies last.)
All of our libraries have traditional comic books patrons can check out at any branch or they can check out digital comics using our e-resources such as Overdrive and hoopla digital. Hoopla Digital now offers Dark Horse Comic including iconic titles Hellboy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Sin City.
