Saturday, May 30th

Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida is one of the most famous opera’s in the world. This epic tale set in ancient Egypt is about an Ethiopian princess turned slave who is torn between her secret love and the love for her family and country. Verdi’s grandest opera premiered in Cairo on December 24th, 1871, and was an immediate success. The popular myth is that it was commissioned to mark the opening of the Suez Canal but it was actually commissioned to mark the opening of the Cairo Opera House. Come join us this Saturday, May 30th, in the Taper Auditorium from 3 -4 pm.
