Award-winning children’s authors Tim Egan, Ian Ogilvy and Sharon Sharth will discuss how they became writers and why they chose to write books for children as part of a panel discussion at the Los Angeles Public Library’s Studio City Branch, at 12511 Moorpark St., on Thursday, May 14, from 4:00-5:30 p.m. The program is co-hosted with the Child Development Department of Los Angeles Valley College (LAVC).
Tim Egan is the author and illustrator of more than 15 award-winning children’s books, including the popular book series ”Metropolitan Cow”, and “The Pink Refrigerator.” He has received numerous awards from Parents’ Choice, Publisher’s Weekly, Oppenheim Toy Portfolio and The Irma Simonton Black Foundation.
Egan, a graduate of Art Center College of Design, currently teaches a class in children’s book illustration at his alma mater.
Ian Ogilvy’s children’s books “Measle and the Wrathmonk,” “Measleand the Dragodon,” “Measle and the Mallockee,” “Measleand the Slitherghoul” and “Measle and the Doompit” have been translated into more than 20 languages and are published all over the world.
Ogilvy has appeared in countless television programs, including “I, Claudius,” “Upstairs Downstairs,” “Murder She Wrote,” “Murphy Brown,” and is best known for playing Simon Templar in “The Return Of The Saint.” He has also appeared in many theater productions in Los Angeles as well as numerous films.
Sharon Sharth is an award-winning author for children and has written 16 books for various publishers. She received the Young Adult Fiction Award from the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI) for “Wild Mind,” a novel about a teen suicide. Sharth speaks at schools, libraries and author fairs across the country and works with an international organization to provide children’s books and other support for vulnerable children in Africa. An artist for 20 years, she is a member of Dramatists Guild, SCBWI as well as PEN USA.
She has worked as an actor for 20 years and has starred on and off-Broadway and in numerous film and television roles before becoming a writer. Her play, “Dates and Nuts,” was produced off-Broadway in NYC at the American Globe Theatre. Sharth has another play, “Waiting for Grace,” in the works.
