Philbrick’s new book tells the story of the largest voyage of discovery in the history of the world. The U.S. Exploring Expedition logged 87,000 miles, surveyed 280 Pacific islands as well as the coasts of northern Antarctica and northwestern America, and identified 2,000 new species of plants and animals, doing for the Pacific Ocean what Lewis and Clark did for the American West. |
