February 10 Abani explores the sprawling, swampy, cacophonous underworld of Lagos, Nigeria, the backdrop to the coming-of-age story of Elvis, a teenage Elvis impersonator hoping to make his way out of the ghetto. Abani, a native of Nigeria, received the PEN/USA West Freedom-to-Write Award, the Prince Claus of Netherlands Award, and most recently, the prestigious Lannan Literary Award.
