Top Tens at the Library

Tina Lernø, Librarian, Digital Content Team,
10 book covers of popular books

It’s the time of year for lists: Recommendations, best of’s and favorites.

As librarians we love stats and data and it’s always interesting for us to see what books were our patrons’ favorites! This year mysteries and thrillers were once again the most popular, with top authors having familiar names like, Michael Connelly, James Patterson and John Grisham. The number one checked out book of 2017 was The Late Show by Michael Connelly. It was the clear favorite at the library. Interestingly, the number one download over in e-media was The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. Not bad for a book that was originally published in 1986. It didn’t hurt that there was an award winning series made from the book this year as well.

Nice to see a number of women authors in the top tens; the aforementioned Atwood, and also Paula Hawkins, Ruth Ware, Lisa See and Ann Patchett.

Our music top ten included something for everyone from kids, to hip hop and alternative. These titles can also be streamed or downloaded by using Hoopla and Freegal.

This librarian is a big reader and has added her own top ten as well.
