Central Library Computer Classes

Learn How to Maneuver a Mouse, Create an E-Mail Account, Search the
LAPL Catalog,  Use a Search Engine and Look for L.A. Times articles--
with Free Computer Classes at the Central Library! 

Librarians from InfoNow and the Central Library Subject Departments teach computer classes for 4-10 people.

Classes are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 - 3:30. Classes meet at the Carson Center for New Technology, 1st Floor, Main Building.

Patrons can sign up Mon.-Fri. the week the classes are offered at the Information Desk, First Floor, Main Building.

The following classes are being offered this term:

“Como ultilizar el Internet”  Una introducción  basica al Internet para principiantes.  En Español.

"Computer Comfort"  Introduction to the computer mouse and keyboard. No experience necessary. Mouse skills learned in this class are required for the other computer classes.

"Creating an Email account " Hands-on training on creating a free e-mail account via MyWay. Leave the class with your own MyWay email account.  Familiarity with keyboard and mouse and/or Computer Comfort classes are highly recommended before taking the class.

"Internet-Google"  Introduction to the Internet, World Wide Web and Google, a major search engine.  Familiarity with keyboard and mouse and/or Computer Comfort classes are highly recommended before taking the class. 


“Internet – Advanced Google”  This class explains how to use Google more extensively.  Emphasis is places on learning search shortcuts, Google, Maps, Google Images and other features.  Familiarity with Google and with keyboard and mouse are highly recommended before taking the class.

“Introduction to the Online Catalog”  Learn how to use LAPL’s online catalog to locate books and other materials available at Central Library and at other LAPL branches.  Familiarity with keyboard and mouse and/or Computer Comfort classes are highly recommended before taking the class.

"Managing an Email Account"  Hands-on training on managing your MyWay email account.  Learn how to send messages, check messages and reply to messages. You must have taken the “Creating an Email Account” class in order to attend this one.

"More Computer Comfort"  This class features an introduction to Windows basics. Familiarity with keyboard and mouse and/or Computer Comfort class are highly recommended before taking the class.

“Newspapers” Learn how to use the Los Angeles Times database to find articles in the L.A. Times Newspaper. Familiarity with keyboard and mouse and/or Computer Comfort classes are highly recommended before taking the class.  Access to this database requires a library card and PIN.
